Tips to Make these DIY Christmas Gnomes
- If you hate to sew (I feel that in my bones), pick up an easy, beginner no-sew gnome pattern like this one. I’ve made this for years and it’s so versatile!
- Take your time. No one is an expert right away and many of these tutorials took 2 or 3 times to get them right.
- Felt is a very forgiving fabric. If you make a mistake, you can trim it and no one will know the difference. Fleece is also a favorite of mine.
- Each gnome is unique. Do not feel constrained by these DIY Christmas gnome tutorials. Come up with your own variation or a new holiday gnome idea. And then please come back and share them with me!
The Quality of Fur Matters
If I could give you my best piece of advice for making gnomes, it is choosing a quality fur. Trust me – it really, really matters.
The sheets of fur in the crafts section might look fine, but quality fur will elevate your gnome from drab to fab. My favorite is Mongolian – it’s a longer pile, and it both looks and feels gorgeous. Another favorite is crinkle fur which is available at most craft stores.
