Free Sock Gnome Patterns
This is a question I get quite often and the best gnome pattern is not a pattern at all: it’s socks. You can absolutely use a sock for the body, the hat, or for both. I’ll share two gnome tutorials below that cover both of these options.

If you want a pattern with tons of inspiration and tutorials, try the versatile Scandinavian Sweeties gnome pattern. From Santa and reindeer and angels to bunnies, this best-selling pattern is popular for a reason with step by step tutorial and video instruction.
I’ve created a lot of add-ons for this pattern – some are included in the pattern and I’ve offered others for free. People prefer this body style because it’s the perfect size for a shelf-sitter.

The cotton mop head has been a fabulous find for gnome making. One can leave it as-is, unfurl the strands, or even brush it out. Here are a couple gnome patterns I’ve shared using this inexpensive craft supply.
