Witch Gnome Using Dollar Tree Supplies
Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, I’ve been using Dollar Tree supplies in my crafting lately. I have the need to use up some of my (insane) craft room stash!
My store put out these tinsel trees and I knew I could create a cute Halloween witch in no time. Honestly, I don’t believe decorating for Halloween should take me too long.
We put out some decor, but let’s face it: I’m really just counting down the days until it is socially acceptable to put out Christmas decorations.

Supplies to Make a Tinsel Tree Gnome for Halloween
Below are the supplies I used for this Dollar Tree witch DIY. Look at the Dollar Tree for decorations, wood beads, and the cone but don’t use the felt. It’s a bit thin for this project and using it could show the tinsel cage.
- tinsel tree (Dollar Tree)
- black felt (9×12 inches, craft store)
- 1 inch wood ball or bead
- fall or Halloween decorations (I used a fall candle ring from Hobby Lobby)
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
- scissors

Dollar Tree Witch Gnome Video Tutorial
As more and more people are turning to video for crafting inspiration, I have created a Dollar Tree witch gnome video tutorial and put it on YouTube. The one showing here on this page is an abbreviated version.
If you are a visual learner, I’d love for you to watch along. Be sure to subscribe to the channel, as we have a ton of fun over there.
Before You Start This Dollar Tree Halloween Craft…
Any of the tinsel trees will work for this. They have sparkle tinsel and these sort of patterned tinsel ones. If you see their “tree toppers,” grab those – it is the same base.
If you can’t find these trees, don’t worry. You can build this on a Styrofoam cone, a paper maché cone, or even one you make yourself from poster board.
This cute Dollar Tree gnome only takes about 10 minutes to put together. Each gnome will require a piece of 9×12 felt, so if you’re making these for a craft night, gather accordingly.

How to Make a Dollar Tree Witch Gnome with a Cone
Below are the step by step instructions to create this fun Dollar Tree Halloween decor. Keep this page open and follow along, using the comments section if you have questions.
First, remove the tinsel from the tree. Cut a piece of faux fur to wrap around the bottom of the cage (mine was a few inches short, but I cut another piece). Glue the fur to the bottom of the cage.
Wrap the felt around the width of the gnome and cut into a cone shape. See the video for details and tips. Glue the felt cone to the tinsel cage in the back securely.
Cut a square of felt to form the brim and cross-cut the center. Slip the brim onto the hat and trim the corners to round them off.
Tuck down the triangles of felt into the brim and secure just inside the brim with glue. Cut off the extra bit of triangle under the brim – you don’t need it – and glue down any parts of the brim you, if desired.
Glue a wood ball or bead under the brim for a nose. I glued it to the fur and the brim of the hat.
Decorate as desired. I used wire cutters to clip off portions of a fall candle ring.
