Tips for Making Veg Pizza Pinwheels
- Before we get started, let me just say: we have added pepperoni to these veggie delights and it was yummy. We also substituted pizza sauce in place of the cream cheese and Ranch seasoning – also, very tasty. My point: mix them up!
- Let it come to room temperature before mixing. If it’s not spreadable, it could be distributed unevenly and might even tear the tortilla.
- To increase chances of these getting eaten by picky eaters, spread the cream cheese mixture all over the tortilla, as little mouths seems to enjoy that part the most.
- If you’re not a fan of flour tortillas, you can use corn tortillas. Corn tortillas won’t hold their shape so you’ll have to put a toothpick in them to stay together and they are not going to be as soft. My child won’t eat them with corn but will eat them with spinach, sun dried tomato basil, and even whole wheat.
- Change up the type of veggies that you add. This pinwheel recipe is so versatile, quick, and easy, you can add most types of chopped veggies.
- If you are new to making pinwheel sandwiches, use a piece of plastic wrap around the log when rolling to really get it tight. The tortilla roll should stay together on its own.
- Optional veggies we like to add: green leaf lettuce, chipped green onions, deli meat, turkey pepperoni, orange, yellow, and red peppers, and steamed vegetables left over from the previous night’s dinner.
