Tips for Making a Hanging Mason Jar Snowman Craft
- Because you are painting metal in this winter craft idea, you may want to use a primer as a base coat. You can find this as a spray or brush-on product. This will help the paint adhere and keep it from being damaged down the road.

How to Make a Metal Mason Jar Snowman Craft

Paint the jar portion of the metal mason jar sign with white acrylic craft paint.
Paint the lid portion of the metal mason jar sign with black acrylic craft paint.
Using scissors, cut a craft stick in the shape of a carrot for the nose, painted orange.
Attach two large black buttons for the eyes and the carrot nose. Add the mouth and cheeks.
Wrap jute twine around the lid of the mason jar sign.
Measure and cut two rectangles from light blue craft felt (see measurements below).
Flip the snowman over and tie the scarf. Be sure to secure it with glue.

Hanging Mason Jar Snowman Craft
Some simple supplies from the dollar store make this fun Hanging Mason Jar Snowman craft for teens and tweens to create on a budget. All you need is a metal mason jar, paint, and buttons among other supplies. This craft makes the perfect hostess, teacher, or neighbor gift for the winter season. Create this quick snowman to share with family and friends. This is a great craft project for the kids to create while on winter break from school.
Materials
- Mason Jar Sign, Metal – Dollar Store
- Natural Jute Twine – Dollar Store
- Silk Pine Branch – Dollar Store
- Jumbo Craft Stick – Dollar Store
- Acrylic Craft Paint – White, Black, Pink, Orange
- Buttons, Large and Medium – Black, Dollar Store
- Craft Felt Sheet, Light Blue
Tools
- Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Paintbrush
- Sponge Dabber
- Scissors
- Ruler
Instructions
- Paint the jar portion of the metal mason jar sign with white acrylic craft paint. Allow to dry and apply a second coat.
- Paint the lid portion of the metal mason jar sign with black acrylic craft paint. Allow to dry and apply a second coat.
- Using scissors, cut a jumbo wooden craft stick in the shape of a four-inch-long carrot for the nose. Paint the carrot nose with orange acrylic craft paint and allow it to dry. Apply a second coat.
- Using the glue gun, attach two large black buttons for the eyes and the carrot nose. Dip a sponge dabber in pink acrylic craft paint to create a cheek on the Snowman’s face. Next, glue seven medium black buttons to create the Snowman’s mouth.
- Wrap natural jute twine around the lid of the mason jar sign, fastening at the front in a knot. Place a small silk pine branch in the twine and secure it with a glue gun.
- Measure and cut two rectangles from light blue craft felt that are two inches wide by twelve inches long.
- Using the glue gun, attach the felt scarf to the back left and right.
- Flip Snowman over and tie the scarf, then attach with the glue. Trim the excess felt and cut a fringe on the ends of the scarf with scissors.
