Tips For Making This Homemade Cork Snowman

The steps might be simple but there are always a few tips that I need to pass along.

  • Let the glue dry before moving on. Because we are stacking and gluing, be sure that it dries and holds everything firmly in place before moving forward.
  • Assemble first and decide if you want paint. I went back and forth on painting this guy. If you want to put him near a wine cabinet or display, I recommend not painting it.
  • You might need to apply two coats of paint. If so, apply a light second coat. You can achieve a rustic farmhouse look if you go lightly on both coats.
  • Ask your family and friends for corks. If you don’t have any corks, you probably know someone that does. If you or friends don’t have any, pick up this set on Amazon.

How to Make This Recycled Cork Snowman Craft

The great part about making a rustic winter craft is that you can display it in so many places. I think that this would be great on a mantle, table, tiered tray, or even on a window sill. Don’t forget that this is also a super cute gift idea for a cork snowman ornament – just add a little ribbon loop to the back.

Materials

  • Recycled Wine Corks
  • White Acrylic Craft Paint
  • Orange Craft Foam
  • Black and White Ribbon

Tools

  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush

Instructions

  1. Attach two corks, then three, and finally two corks in separate rows with the glue gun. Glue those corks to each other in the following order: row of two on bottom, three in the middle, and two on top. You've just made the snowman's head.
  2. For the body, make rows of: three corks, four corks, five corks, then another row of four corks, and finally another with three. When dry, glue them together in this order: row of three on bottom, four on top, five on top of the four, four on top of the five, and the final row of three on top.
  3. Paint each end of the corks with white paint. Let it dry and apply a second coat if needed.
  4. Attach the head to the body using the glue gun.
  5. Cut a triangle in the orange foam and glue it to the middle of the snowman's head. To make the scarf, tie the ribbon around the neck and add a couple of dots of glue to hold it into place.Step by step image collage showing the six steps of making a cork snowman with a nose and scarf using a hot glue gun, scissors, and paint.

Notes

If your corks are stained, don't worry - the white paint will cover the ends and the rest is just bonus decoration. :)

Add eyes and a mouth if you have small buttons or beads.
