Laser Ideas for Independence Day

Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, I’ve been working on creating for each holiday using one of my diode or C02 lasers because I don’t want them sitting idle. Also, to be honest, I have a ton of wood I need to work through!

Today, I’m rounding up designs and projects I’ve actually made – these are tried and tested by me so you can be sure they work.

One of my favorite projects are signs and, no matter what size your working area is, these can all be made into 18″ – 22″ door signs. I’ll also state that all of these designs can also be made into shelf sitters for inside decor.

I own two types of lasers right now: CO2 and diode. Below are summaries of each and suggestions on materials. If you have questions, please ask! Not all lasers are right for those looking to start a business or side hustle. If that’s you, choose the P2 or the S1.

  • xTool P2 – A fully-enclosed CO2 laser, perfect for cutting acrylic and wood. This is an unrestricted laser when it comes to acrylic, wood, slate, etc. and it’s my top choice.
  • xTool S1 – The option I have is a 40 watt diode laser which cuts some acrylic, wood and does amazing engravings. This laser has some acrylic restrictions (no clear, mirror, translucent; primarily opaque) but powers through wood.
  • xTool M1 ULTRA – The updated version of the ground-breaking xTool M1 shows up to the party with a printer (can print on wood), a laser, a set of blades, foil, and embossing, as well as a pen tool. Great for crafters!
  • WeCreat Vista – This is a fun tool to have if you’d like to work primarily with tumblers or wood. The patented FlipLaser design turns the laser head 90 degrees, allowing you a great tumbler engraving experience.

Happy 4th Laser Cut Round Sign

One of my favorite and most popular designs, this easy Happy 4th Y’all sign project only has a few cuts. If you’re buying a round to build on, you can cut the outer ring in two parts or leave it off.

Star Spangled Independence Day Shelf Sitter SVG for Lasers

Stacked designs are always a hit and this one has a few elements that will look SO good when combined with different species of wood. This star spangled Independence Day shelf sitter SVG is a fun project, with or without the scored background.

Patriotic Tag Set (Door Sign, Decor, or Wreath Tag)

Putting the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner onto these patriotic tag SVG set for lasers makes this an amazing score-ready project. It’s quick and easy to finish up or sell as a kit.

For those who love the rustic, old-world style, this red, white, and blue Americana patriotic tag SVG set for lasers is a flag full of fun features. The stars, stripes, and easy shape are a fun project for everyone from beginners to professionals.

DIY Garland or Independence Day Buntings

My favorite find of last year was that I could laser cut precision pieces out of thicker felt. I picked up this 3mm felt set and made a very fun 4th of July USA garland with the laser in just minutes (after I came up with the idea as I was writing this article).
