Tips for Making Keychains with Cricut or Silhouette
After having made quite a few of these keychain designs (and actual keychains) now, here are some tips I have for you to keep in mind if you’re a beginner.
- Get a good quality circle keychain kit that doesn’t break the bank. This is the keychain kit I’ve purchased now at least three times. It comes with everything you need and cute, colorful tassels are included!
- Do not remove the film until you’re ready to adhere the vinyl. If you keep it on there, you won’t have to use alcohol to clean it off.
- If you’re a beginner to working with small projects, don’t choose too intricate of a design. The POP and USA keychain SVG designs are a perfect place to start.
- These acrylic keychain designs can be cut with any machine but is perfect with the small, portable Cricut Joy. It’s perfect to take with you to a craft fair and be working during the slower periods.
- Cricut keychains use small amounts of materials, so use scrap vinyl and the Snap Mat feature to cut a lot at once.

Other Ways to Use Free Keychain SVG Files
I am a multi-use crafter, meaning I find a way to work with a design more than once. If you’re the same, here are a few more ways to use these 4th of July keychain SVGs.
- Cups and Mugs – Did you know round designs are so cool on mugs? They take some getting used to putting on (cut small slits in them to help position them), but they’re a visual powerhouse.
- Cold Tumblers – You know the famous coffee house cold tumblers and ALLLLLL the tumbler designs for them with a hole cut out in the middle? This is a fun 4th of July one.
- Decor Accents – Round keychain SVG designs are perfect to add to farmhouse beads (a.k.a. prayer beads). Transfer the design in permanent vinyl onto a wood round.
- Ornaments – Until I started a Facebook group (join us here), I never knew people had Christmas trees or “celebration trees” up all year round. If you decorate one, I’d love to see it!

Note: if you have the free version of Silhouette Studio, use the DXF file. That said, DXF is old technology and will be very slow cuts, so SVG is recommended.
These free SVG files are in a zip file. Most of the time, you will need to double click the file to open it. If that doesn’t work, use a search engine and type, how to open a zip file on [your device]. Then, open Cricut Design Space (or Silhouette Studio) and upload the SVG cut file or the PNG for print then cut.
