Sanderson Sisters Bookmarks
Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, we are huge Disney fans. We have seen the Hocus Pocus movies several times. We just don’t get tired of watching those crazy Sanderson Sisters from Salem’s seventeenth century.
Have you seen Hocus Pocus? If not, it is a must-see! It is hugely popular and has been since it was released in 1993. It speaks volumes about the content of a movie that is as popular now as it was almost 30 years ago.
You just can’t help but cheer for the three kids whose mission is to send three witches back to where they came from. What ensues in the meantime is a family-fun-filled movie you will want to see over and over again.

Why These Hocus Pocus Bookmarks Make the Perfect Craft
They would make the perfect activity for a Hocus Pocus-themed party. The kids can make their bookmarks and then take them home as a party favor to use at home.
They are easy enough that most kids can make them with little adult supervision. The little kiddos may need help with the cutting and possibly the gluing.
They are unbelievably inexpensive to make. We had the supplies in our craft bin, so they cost us nothing. If you need to run to the store for the materials, you probably won’t spend $3. If you are looking for felt bookmark ideas, we think this one is the best!
They are quite practical. I hate to dog-ear a book, so using a bookmark is a must-have for me. I love how whimsical these Hocus Pocus felt bookmarks are. They make me smile every time I open my book!
Tips for Making Felt Bookmarks:
- It is recommended that you not use just any glue when working with felt. If you do not have a hot glue gun, we suggest using tacky glue, either clear or white.
- If you prefer a more sturdy bookmark, you can glue it to a second piece of cream felt, a piece of craft foam, or card stock
- If you happen to get your felt Hocus Pocus craft bookmark wet, don’t panic! Because it is made from tightly woven fibers, you can just wipe off the liquid and your felt is as good as new.

Using a ruler and marker, measure three rectangles 2” wide by 11” long on cream felt. Cut them out with scissors.
Download, print, and cut the Sanderson Sisters Bookmarks Patterns. Using straight pins, attach Mary’s dress to burgundy felt, Winifred’s dress to green felt, and Sarah’s dress to purple felt. Cut out patterns with scissors.
Roughly cut out the head patterns. Using straight pins, attach Mary’s hair to the black felt, Winifred’s hair to the orange felt, and Sarah’s hair to the gold felt. Cut out the patterns with scissors.
Using the cream felt rectangles as the base, assemble the bookmarks by attaching the dresses and hair with a glue gun.
Flip each Sanderson sister bookmark over and trim any excess cream felt that is showing through the front of the bookmarks with scissors.
Using the bookmark pattern as a guide, add the lips to Winnie’s bookmark with red dimensional fabric paint. Add the stitching on the dress with gold glitter glue.
Following the pattern for your guide, add the lips to Mary’s bookmark with red dimensional fabric paint. Add a birthmark with the black paint and add the stitching with gold glitter glue.
Grab the Sarah pattern and using it to guide you, add the lips to Sarah’s bookmark with red dimensional fabric paint. Add a birthmark with the black paint and add the stitching with gold glitter glue.
Set aside to dry. Once dry, grab your Hocus Pocus Spell Book or favorite book and use your new bookmarks.
Notes for Making Sanderson Sisters Felt Bookmarks
- Because there are many small points on the hair of the Sanderson Sisters, we suggest using a pair of scissors with a sharp blade tip. This will give the crisp look you want for your bookmarks. Of course, use caution when working with younger children.
- When you cannot find any dimensional paint, you can substitute fabric paint or a fine-tipped fabric pen to draw your lips and beauty marks.
- Can’t find any gold glitter glue? No worries! We love using these glitter pens for fine details on the dress stitching.
- To get a nice sharp edge on your bookmarks, you can use a ruler with a rotary blade and a self-healing mat. I love those crisp clean lines!
