Keychain SVG – Free Bundle

Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, I’ve been crafting a lot with permanent vinyl and my Cricut machines. Sometimes I look at a color of vinyl and just get a burst of ideas.

I’m working through the enormous craft supplies stash I moved from the old house to the new one. I’ve decided to make a few items to keep on hand in my gift ideas box just in case I need a quick gift. Because keychains can double as gift tags, they’re top on my priority list.

How to Create a Custom Project in Cricut Design Space

Aside from leather or acrylic keychain blanks (which I love), here are a few more ideas to use these files in your Silhouette or Cricut crafting. Follow these steps below to use the hearts in your custom projects.

First, upload the bundle to Cricut Design Space. Select your machine and “New Project.” From the workspace, select “Upload,” choose the bundle, and click on the “Add to Canvas” button.

From the layers panel, turn off the layers you do not want to use (click on the eye next to the group).

With the design highlighted, size it to the project, and select “Ungroup.” Turn off the backing / base layer.

To add text, select a font and word. I’m going to use ‘LOVE’ and the “Beefcakes” font. Note: adjust the kerning (using the “letter spacing”) or place letters individually (ungroup them).

After adding the curved text feature, I ungroup the letters. This allows me to move and turn each letter individually.

In order to cut a simple project, I’m going to Unite (or Weld) the individual elements together to make one cut. I’ll size it to a box lid of a gift box that was VERY beaten up during the move and cut it on my Cricut Joy (my favorite machine right now).

Finally, I’ll transfer the design using normal permanent vinyl techniques. If you’re new, those are 1) weed, 2) transfer (using transfer tap), and 3) apply.

Note: if you have the free version of Silhouette Studio, use the DXF file. That said, DXF is old technology and will be very slow cuts, so SVG is recommended.
