Free Mardi Gras Cut Files
Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, I am ‘of the age’ I stop and reminisce about the good ‘ol days of my adult youth. There were literally no rules for the first time in my life and whew, it was exciting and terrifying at the same time.
When I was in college, we headed over to New Orleans for my first ever Mardi Gras (as an adult) and oh.my.word, it was overwhelming! The colors, sounds, and yep, even some gnarly smells that wafted around us as we threw our hands up for beads is just something I hope to never forget. I don’t think I ever stopped smiling that trip or any other time we partook in the festivities each year.
Now, if you’re from the Southeast, I know Mardi Gras originated (in the US) in Alabama, however, I lived in Texas and Louisiana was close. One day I hope to get over to see the celebration in ‘Bama, but living so far from the party now here in Seattle, I’ll have to keep designing to join in the fun. Here are some of my Mardi Gras cut files.

Free Mardi Gras Fleur de Lis SVG
Sometimes I can’t decide on a style until I see it cut out in vinyl and that was the case with this one. This Mardi Gras fleur de lis set includes two designs: an elegant script and a playful style are both included with the fleur de lis. I mean, two for the free price of one… do Mardi Gras SVG cutting files get better than that deal?
Free Mardi Gras Offset SVG with Mask and Accents
The bright bold colors (purple, green, and gold) of Mardi Gras, chosen in the 1800’s, all look great with black. If you have a bit of one color on hand, don’t be afraid to tone down the colors and use the typography of this free Mardi Gras offset cut file set.
Free Stacked and Layered Mardi Gras Cut File Set
I get asked a lot for ‘man-friendly’ designs and this stacked style I used in this free Mardi Gras SVG is a popular choice. This is a subdued Mardi Gras shirt made with iron on vinyl.
Premium SVG Sets for Mardi Gras Crafts
While it might take me a bit of time to get back to the festivities, I’ve drawn and lettered up some fun premium files for you, as well. The extras like the detailed mask and bead necklaces are great additions to your Cricut or Silhouette SVG file collection.
Crazy on Parade SVG
This is my favorite of the Mardi Gras cut file series because it makes me laugh and honestly, that mask is pretty fun with the extra feathers in the shape of a fleur de lis. Download the Crazy on Parade SVG for Mardi Gras crafts here.
It’s Mardi Gras Y’all SVG and Cut File Set
I just can’t seem to drop the y’all from my vocabulary after growing up in the South. This sentiment is literally screamed over the fervor at least 20 times an hour. Grab the It’s Mardi Gras Y’all SVG here.
LOVE Mardi Gras Cut File Set
Another icon is married up with the fleur de lis and bead necklaces seen all over the party. I designed this LOVE Mardi Gras SVG so that I could have a quick tiered tray sign, but it would look great on a t-shirt or sublimated onto a patch.
Tips for Attending and Project Ideas for Mardi Gras
Let’s say you’re heading to your first big Mardi Party and want to know what to bring (and leave) for Mardi Gras. Here are my tips:
- Do a little research on what parades are available when you’re heading over to the party (it’s not just one day; Mardi Gras lasts quite a while). One of the best parades is Bacchus and it is the weekend BEFORE Fat Tuesday.
- Leave your own cup at home (or at the hotel). By all means, you should make yourself a tumbler (a large one) but don’t bring it to the parade(s) or the bars. Many bars aren’t allowed to fill up a cup and will provide to-go cups. But do bring water.
- Bring a tote bag! My, oh my, you’re going to need this so I recommend getting a thin one (I have this convertible tote + backpack). Get something you can roll up easily and use when needed.
- St Charles Avenue is a big street where the Krewes throw gifts (beads, toys, cups, and so much more) but it can get pretty crowded. I recommend having a way to identify each other easily. Hats, t-shirts, and other easily-noticed items are a great idea.
- If you can’t make it to the fun in person, whip up a tiered tray or kitchen towel. That way, whenever you see them, you’ll be reminded of the meaning, the fun, and the good times.
