This Pumpkin Craft Idea is Perfect for Fall!
These DIY pumpkins are exactly what your fall decor needs. Can you imagine how cute they will look on a shelf, your fireplace mantel, or a decorative tiered tray? Place a trio of these sock pumpkins just about anywhere and you will add such charm to your home.
Because we shopped at the thrift store, we paid less than a dollar for multiple pairs of socks. And you don’t need to use much of the Poly-Fil but to save on that, as well, pick up an inexpensive pillow at a big box store.
When we say it takes minutes to make three sock pumpkins, we mean it! We were able to put together our three pumpkins in less than 20 minutes.
When your friends and family see these adorable pumpkins made from socks, they are surely going to want a few for themselves. You better make plenty so you can share them with everyone or set up a craft night project with this fall craft idea and a crockpot of chili.

Tips for Making Sock Pumpkins:
- If you want to add a bit of weight to your pumpkin we suggest using Poly Pellets, which are hypoallergenic, or small rocks or gravel. Do not use beans or rice as they can mold if wet, in addition to sprouting and attracting critters.
- We have found thick socks work best for this craft, like those you wear in winter. This is especially true if you are filling them with any kind of weight. You can use wool, cotton, or synthetic but choose thicker socks.
- If you are sharing these sock pumpkins with others, we definitely recommend using the raffia or ribbon to hide the rubber bands, making them more aesthetically pleasing and securing the tie in case the rubber band snaps.

Notes for Making a Sock Pumpkin
- We love to find our socks from the thrift store, but you can also look in your own sock drawer or the big box stores, either brick and mortar or online.
- Although pumpkins are traditionally orange, we urge you to think outside the box and choose other fall colors and textures for your sock pumpkins like yellow, brown, brick red, grey, and ivory.
- Each adult-size sock you use in this craft will make two sock pumpkins. If you use a child-sized sock, it will make one pumpkin.
- For the stems, you can use sticks from the yard or from Amazon or you can use a cinnamon stick
