Tips to Make this Christmas Kids Craft

  • It’s fine to use craft glue, but if your kiddo is on the younger side (like mine), but they really really want to use a hot glue gun like mommy (like mine), you should check out this awesome kid-friendly ultra-low temp hot glue gun for kids here. I got one and the kiddo loves using it.
  • Let your kiddo grab some paper straws in their favorite holiday colors. My kiddo picked out these pretty gold and red paper straws here, but if your kiddo is all about greens, let them do this fun paper straw Christmas tree ornaments in shades of green. It’s their tree, after-all.
  • My kiddo had a great idea for a tree topper – self adhesive snowflakes like these. We never have enough uses for those things and they’re always in the craft drawer, so the idea that we might use them up making ornaments was awesome. Ha!

Materials

  • Red acrylic paint
  • Red craft jute twine
  • Paper straws in red, white, and gold
  • Self-adhesive snowflake

Tools

  • Craft paint brush
  • Elmer’s School Glue
  • Scissors
  • Paper plate

Instructions

  1. Put the craft stick on the paper plate, just to keep the table clean. Paint the craft stick with red paint then allow the paint to dry completely.
  2. Take off the backing from the self-adhesive snowflake and place it on the top of the painted craft stick.
  3. Cut a length of one paper straw just slightly wider than the craft stick. Glue this paper straw piece below the snowflake sticker. Repeat using different color straws, cutting each of the straws slightly wider than the last then gluing them in succession to the craft stick, working from the top of the tree to the bottom. Place the last straw approximately 1-inch from the bottom of the craft stick. Allow the glue to dry completely.
  4. Cut a length of twine about 10-inches long. Fold the twine in half, then tie a knot at the end. Flip the paper straw tree over and glue the knotted end of the twine to the top of the stick (behind the snowflake). Allow the glue to dry completely then hang from the tree! photo collage tutorial of how to make a paper straw christmas tree ornament kids craft
