Mini Witch Hat Template and Pattern
This free mini witch hat pattern is perfect as is or can be resized to fit your project. The free hat pattern and can be printed and cut with scissors, uploaded into a Cricut or other cutting machine, and even used by laser cutters!

Free Witch Hat Template
Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, I’m always crafting. Today, when I *attempted* to clean my craft room and put felt away, I realized the bin was overflowing.
While half of the reason for that abundance was my very particular way of filling said tote, as I tend to shove it all in there all willy-nilly. I realized I could stand to make a felt project or two to reduce the overflow, however, and this idea was born.
How to Use This Free Pattern
I hate, hate, hate making people hand over their email for patterns, so it’s just a link with no catch. If you do want to sign up to my (awesome) newsletter here, it’s free and I’m not good at sending them very often. When I do, there’s usually free stuff like this.
Print and Cut By Hand
You will download the PDF if you want to cut this by hand. Set your print page set up / printer screen to print at 100%. There will be a one-inch marker printed on the page and you’ll know it’s “correctly sized” if that measures the same.
Use scissors to cut along the solid black lines. Place the paper pattern onto felt or fabric (it helps to pin it in place), and trace with chalk or pen before using straight scissors to cut it out.
Print and Color for Cutting
Want to give little hands with big imaginations something to do for Halloween? Print the PDF and give it to them to decorate prior to cutting out.
Upload to Cutting Machines or Laser Software
You will download the SVG. The sizing marker (1 inch) can be ignored / removed as if you want to scale, you will scale the entire group together (hat, brim, and band).
xTool Lasers
You can open the .XS file type directly into the software (note: Open, not Import). The mini scale will be sized automatically but you can also scale it. If you want to scale, make sure you get the entire group (hat, brim, and band).
How to Assemble the Miniature Witch Hat
Once the three pieces are cut, you will use hot glue to assemble. You can sew this, however, I am not going to do a tutorial for it.
Roll the hat into a cone shape with a small overlap. Use hot glue to assemble the bottom first and then glue all the way up. If you are hanging this, you can leave a small gap at the top.
To ruffle the brim, hold the felt about 1 inch apart between the thumb and forefinger and pull it gently apart. You just need a light tug (save your muscles for the gym, sis).
Place the brim down onto the cone, leaving about 1/4 inch at the bottom of the cone. Glue down the brim to the cone, gently directing the brim down to secure.
NOTE: if you’re using a thin felt or fabric without backing, you don’t want to press the two pieces together, as the hot glue join can appear through it.
Once the brim is secured all the way around, glue one end of the band’s edge (the curve faces down) to the back of the hat just at the seam.
Wrap the brim around and secure the other edge to line up to where you started. Snip off excess.
Note: there will be excess on the brim to allow for varying fabric thicknesses. It’s normal to cut off a portion.
