Harry Potter Popcorn – A Healthy Caramel Popcorn Kids Love!
This healthy caramel popcorn recipe is a crowd-pleaser and is a perfect treat to go along with a Harry Potter movie night. It’s quick, easy, and oh-so-tasty!
Something Different Than Butter Beer Popcorn
Every Harry Potter themed birthday or watch party I’ve attended has served butter beer popcorn. It’s like “a thing” in the Wizarding World of Potterheads.
But… I don’t like it a lot. Not at all, actually.
So when my daughter requested Harry Potter popcorn to go along with our Harry Potter family movie night, I whipped up a healthy caramel popcorn instead. And you know what?
It was a huge hit! You can see all of our Harry Potter food and crafts here.

Now, let’s get back to this tasty caramel corn.
Ingredients for Healthy Caramel Popcorn
I absolutely love caramel corn but it’s not too healthy. Most recipes call for corn syrup and it’s not the best (and I certainly want to limit giving it to kids). So, I created this version which allowed me to use nature’s sugar.
That’s why I’m pegging this as a healthy(ish) version of caramel popcorn. :)
- 4 cups popped corn (remove any unpopped kernels)*
- 1/3 cup of unsalted butter
- 1/8 cup of honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 – 3/4 teaspoon sea salt (we used Hawaiian)
How to Make Harry Potter’s Healthy Caramel Popcorn
Healthy Caramel Popcorn Recipe
This healthy caramel popcorn recipe is a crowd-pleaser and is a perfect treat to go along with a Harry Potter movie night. It’s quick, easy, and oh-so-tasty!
Ingredients
- 4 cups popped corn (remove any unpopped kernels)*
- 1/3 cup of unsalted butter
- 1/8 cup of honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (we used Hawaiian)
Instructions
- Pop the corn and place it in a large bowl. Set aside.
- Preheat the oven or toaster oven to 275. Note: if you like a soft, buttery popcorn normally, you don’t even have to bake this! It’s delicious without turning the coating into a hard shell. Note: If you want to serve this soft without baking, increase the popcorn or decrease the amount of syrup you put on the popcorn. If you don’t, it will be very gooey popcorn.
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter and honey until incorporated fully. Remove from heat and add the salt and vanilla.
- Pour the mix over popcorn and spread on a small, rimmed baking sheet. Bake between 15 and 20 minutes to harden the coating on the popcorn (you can cook it longer but we were impatient to start the movie). Let your healthy caramel popcorn cool on the baking sheet for at least 5 minutes before handling – it will be HOT!
- Serve warm or cool.
