Gnome Valentine Mailbox

Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, I am a sucker for a dollar deal. When I go to the Dollar Tree or to the Target Dollar Spot, I have to look at everything because they have gems show up.

One of those gems was a fun red mailbox and this Valentine’s Day craft was sketched out and made in my head before I even checked out. The best part is that I made a set of gnome SVG files so I could let my Cricut do the work!

Tips to Make This Valentine Gnome Mailbox

  • Click here to get the cute valentines gnome SVG cut file set. You get SEVERAL gnome designs to choose from (I just couldn’t settle on one) so, you can customize your project with as many little gnomes as you like.
  • You will need a mini mailbox like this one and a wooden candlestick like this one.
  • Make sure to measure your mailbox and scale your gnomes to fit. I had to scale mine down considerably to fit nicely on the side of my mailbox.
  • I used craft felt to make my Valentines gnomes, but you can also use craft foam, card stock, and even permanent vinyl. I just loved the softer look of the felt, but vinyl would be easiest.

Tools

  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Cricut Cutting Machine

Instructions

  1. Download the cut files and upload them to Cricut Design Space.
  2. Measure the size of your mailbox side and, based on the width, reduce the size of the gnomes to fit on the side of the mailbox.
  3. Tell Design Space to Make It and cut the gnome pieces from the craft felt scraps.
  4. Weed the extra felt from the mat and carefully remove the tiny pieces of the gnomes from the mat.
  5. Lay out the gnomes with all their pieces so they stay together--even though I did this, I still messed up some of the groups. Oops.
  6. Hot glue the bodies of the gnomes onto the side of the mailbox.
  7. Glue the hats on top of the bodies. photo collage tutorial of how to make a gnome valentine mailbox
  8. Attach the beards, mustaches, feet and hands to each gnome, as applicable.
  9. Hot glue on the letters and heart.
  10. Paint the candlestick with the red craft paint and allow to dry fully.
  11. Hot glue the candlestick to the center of the mailbox bottom.
  12. Wrap the faux floral vine around the candlestick and hot glue in place.
  13. Tuck the tiny roses in place and hot glue them to stay--then enjoy! photo collage tutorial of how to make a gnome mailbox for valentines
