Word Arrow Cut Files for Signs and Decor
Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, I get a lot of requests for sign SVG for Cricut, Silhouette and other cutting machines. Everyone can find these great, skinny rectangle signs!
Making these farmhouse signs are an easy way to work with a single color permanent vinyl project or learning to put Cricut vinyl on top of paint. And if you haven’t tried it yet, you should try a chippy paint technique like crackle glue or petroleum jelly (only put it on the edges if working with vinyl).
This week, I had some time sitting in the car and came up with four designs of arrow word cut files for you. Use the comments and let me know what you want volume 2 to be!

How to Make a Word Arrow Sign
If you’re new to Cricut, one of the easiest and most popular items to make are signs. There are a few tips to keep in mind, however. The first is that there are no rules and you can do what you want… Which kind of applies to all crafting, doesn’t it?

Where Will the Sign Be “Living?”
But seriously, if the sign or frame is to be living outside, I recommend paint. The heat and/or sunlight could cause vinyl to bubble. Use these free SVG designs to create a stencil (I have used both Oracal stencil vinyl and Cricut vinyl with success) and paint in the designs.
Both heat transfer vinyl (HTV) and permanent work well on wood (or MDF) and I recommend permanent vinyl. if you’re working on an indoor sign or decor. Both are easy to cut and you don’t have to wait on paint to dry.
Decide on the Sign
Whether it’s a thrift-store uplift or a brand new blank from the craft store, you are going to need a sign. I find A LOT (more than you might think) at the dollar stores. I often bring a few home and paint them white – actually, I’m lazy so I spray paint them.
The dollar stores often have rectangle signs and arrows all the time. The thrift stores have fun, chunky frames you can use with a bit of foam board as a backing (it works great).
My point is really start looking and this long, rectangle shape will jump out at you!
Measure (A Few Times)
Once you’ve decided on your sign, it’s time to measure the piece. But don’t stop with a single measurement!
I recommend creating a rough bow or whatever extras you need to get an idea of sizing to ensure the design is seen. Before sizing the sign SVG, measure where the design will go, giving thought to:
- Will I add a bow?
- Does this piece need cascading greenery?
- Where will hanging materials be added?
Once you’ve measured, upload the design into Cricut Design Space or Silhouette Studio. Use the measurement tools and remember that you can unlock them and resize to your liking and project needs.
NOTE: if using a stencil vinyl, remember you will be removing the actual design. This leaves the negative space to be filled in.
Weed the design and transfer it using one of the methods above. And voila – you’re done!
