Tips to Make Easter Hot Cocoa Bombs

  • Make this easy (like super easy) on yourself and grab some pre-made sugar icing bunny tails and feet here. Sure, you can make some on your own, but seriously, these are perfect and cute – plus they’re what inspired me to make these bunny hot cocoa bombs to begin with!
  • Using chocolate chips to make hot cocoa bombs, particularly white chocolate ones, is not my preferred method. Chocolate chips are just notoriously difficult, being all lumpy when they’re supposed to melt and getting chunky when they’re supposed to be smooth. Instead, I highly recommend using chocolate candy melts. They’re made for exactly this kind of melting and molding activity and won’t let you down. So, grab a bag of melting discs like this. The recipe only needs one bag, so that’s just perfectly sized.
  • When you’re chilled to the bone and ready for a mug of delicious Easter hot chocolate, just pop the bunny butt cocoa bombs into a big mug, then heat about 2 cups of milk (just enough to fill the mug is fine) and pour that hot milk over the bomb. The bunny butt will float, the bomb will open and “explode” revealing the marshmallows!

Instructions

  1. Place the candy melts in a bowl and melt per the directions on the package in your preferred method. I like to microwave mine. Make sure they're completely melted and smooth.
  2. Place 2 tbsp of the candy melt into one mold cavity and, using the bottom of your spoon, work the chocolate up and around the sides of the cavity, keeping it thick and even. Repeat with 12 bomb mold cavities then pop the molds into the freezer for 5 minutes to set.
  3. Put your unused chocolate into a piping bag to use later.
  4. Remove molds from the freezer and gently peel the silicone away from the chocolate cups.
  5. Add 1 tbsp white hot chocolate mix and 2-3 marshmallows to six of the chocolate cups then heat a plate in the microwave until the surface of the plate is warm to the touch.
  6. Press the open side of one of the empty chocolate bomb halves onto the warmed plate for about 10 seconds. This will gently melt the rim. Immediately place this chocolate cup on top of one of the filled cups to close the hot cocoa bomb. Repeat with all of the hot cocoa bombs.
  7. Place a small dab of melted chocolate onto the top, then two dabs on either side of the center on the front of the cocoa bomb. Immediately press a tail into the top dab and a foot on each of the chocolate dabs on either side of center. Hold these in place for a moment to make sure that they will stay.
  8. Repeat adding tails and feet to each hot cocoa bombs.
  9. Place the hot cocoa bombs into the freezer for 5 minutes to get them to set, then remove and store in an airtight container until you’re ready to use.
  10. To add a little cuteness, pop your hot cocoa bombs into a cupcake liner.
  11. To use the hot cocoa bombs, place them in a mug and pour 2 cups hot milk over the top. Stir until the hot cocoa bombs are completely melted and enjoy! photo collage tutorial of how to make bunny butt hot cocoa bombs for easter
