Dollar Tree Hanging Tag Ornament Makeover

Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, I’ve been working through my holiday dollar store accents bin. This thing has been overflowing for a while and I figured I shouldn’t bring anything in until it’s manageable.

Today, I cut some pretty paper, added a few accents from the bin, and made over the double hanging tag ornaments from Dollar Tree. I love this idea because you can customize it so many ways.

Materials You Will Need

I’ll list what I used below but keep in mind that this craft can actually be done year-round. When you see these tags, pick them up!

  • Dollar Tree double tag ornament
  • scrapbook paper (any pretty paper – it doesn’t have to be Christmas themed)
  • accents (bells, greenery, berries, etc.)
  • ModPodge

You will also need a pair of scissors, hot glue, and a pencil to trace.

How to Makeover These Dollar Tree Ornaments

Split apart the ornament. I learned that the staple wasn’t really an issue – the heat gun is best to loosen the hot glue for easy separation. Remove any decorations and hangers.

Next, sand the glitter side (or just flip them over). Your goal is to start with a smooth surface.

Turn over the paper, trace the tags (there will be two sizes), and cut them out. I used one of the same papers on both to ensure they coordinated for my gifting, but use whatever makes you happy.

Apply ModPodge to the tags, press on the paper, and let dry fully.

Decorate with the original greenery and berries or add on split bells (other Dollar Tree ornaments) for a fun accent. Use stickers or rub-on transfers to add words and your tags are ready.
