Tips For Making Grinch Crinkle Cookies
- For easy rolling, make sure you refrigerate the cookie dough for the recommended amount of time. If you don’t, the dough will get sticky as it comes to room temperature, making it quite difficult to roll.
- To avoid lumps of powdered sugar on your cookies when you roll them, sift the powdered sugar before use. This will ensure a nice and smooth crinkle to your cookies.
- You can use a white or a yellow cake mix.
- To ensure a true leaf green color, many bakers prefer using 2-3 drops of gel coloring for these Grinch crinkle cookies. Start with 2 drops and mix thoroughly and only add the third if needed.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees—line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Set aside. In the bowl of a stand mixer, add the dry cake mix, oil, and eggs or egg whites.
Mix on medium speed for about two minutes, or until smooth. Add in the green food coloring and mix until the desired color is achieved.
Chill the bowl of dough in the fridge for 1 hour or the freezer for about 30 minutes. The dough should be cool to the touch and no longer sticky.
Roll the dough into 1″ balls and then roll them in the powdered sugar. Place on the baking sheet.
Bake in preheated oven for 10-12 minutes. Edges should be set and the center no longer shiny. Immediately place a large sprinkle heart on the cookie in the upper right corner – just like the location of the heart in the Grinch’s body!
Allow to cool for about 10-15 minutes. Cookies will continue to set up as they cool.
Notes For Making Grinch Crinkle Cookies
- A “secret” we discovered when making our crinkle cookies was to roll them in standard granulated sugar before rolling it in the powdered sugar. This method ensures a perfect crinkle every time.
- Place the rolled cookies 2″ apart to keep them from spreading into each other. This will avoid the task of cutting the cookies apart after they have cooled down.
