How Long Do Hot Cocoa Bombs Last?
How Do I Store Hot Cocoa Bombs?
Hot chocolate bombs will last between 45 and 60 days when stored in an airtight container placed in an out of the way spot like a pantry. They are best stored at room temperature in a solid-sided, air-tight container so they aren’t damaged.
Can Hot Cocoa Bombs Be Frozen?
Yes, they can. If you want to prep and make these ahead of time, wrap each chocolate bomb in a bit of cling wrap or butcher paper. Store them in a solid-sided, freezer-safe container for up to 2 months.
How Do You Use Hot Chocolate Bombs?
Homemade Hot Cocoa bombs are fun to enjoy and kids (of all ages) will get a kick out of watching them! Heat 8-12 ounces of your milk of choice and drop the cocoa bomb carefully down into it. The warm milk will melt away some of the cocoa shell, letting all the yummy stuff inside spill out.
Next, grab a spoon and stir. Sip and repeat over and over again – lip-smacking is purely optional.
How Do I Seal Cocoa Bombs?
Frying Pan Method: Warm up a pan on the stove. Remove it from the heat and carefully melt the rim of the sphere. Once you see melted chocolate, immediately attach it to one of the bottom halves.
Hot Surface Method: Warm a microwave-safe glass dish or plate in the microwave or over a pot of boiling water. Press one half onto the plate, watch for the melted chocolate after pressing like above, and join two halves.
Pipe Melted Chocolate: Use leftover melted chocolate and add it to a piping bag (snip the tip) or to a small zip top plastic bag with a corner cut off. Squeeze chocolate around the rim of the bottom chocolate shell and place the other sphere on top. Using your finger, smooth the chocolate out.
If you bundle the “perfect seal,” don’t fret. NO ONE is going to make a comment about it, especially once they’ve tasted them. I’m asked a lot about decorating the seal – honestly, I would just melt colored candy melts, add them to a piping bag to pipe the seal, and then cover it with coarse sugar to match the theme.
Keep it easy. Like I said, no one is going to comment on the seal as long as it’s fully joined. No hot cocoa, marshmallows, or extras should escape the seal.
How to Gift Individual Hot Cocoa Bombs
These are SO much fun to gift! My favorite way to give these are as single treats for a surprise pick-me-up. To create, wrap a hot cocoa bomb in a cellophane bag and pick up a fun mug at the Dollar Tree. If you have a Cricut or Silhouette machine, use one of my free SVG designs to fit the occasion or holiday to personalize it.
Once you have the wrapped cocoa bomb and the mug, plop it on in, add a ribbon with a tag, and gift, gift, gift.

Skeleton Hot Cocoa Bombs
These skeleton hot cocoa bombs are perfect for a fun Halloween treat and you only need 10 minutes of actual work to make them!
Ingredients
- black candy melts (8 ounces)
- 1/2 cup white candy melts
- 4 tablespoons of hot cocoa mix
- mini marshmallows (measure with your heart)
- coconut oil
Instructions
- Melt the black candy melts in the microwave. Make sure to add 1 tsp of solid coconut oil and microwave per the package instructions. Repeat until melted and stir until smooth.
- Add a big spoonful of the melted chocolate into the cocoa bomb mold. Coat the entire mold with chocolate. (I like to use the back of the spoon to spread it around). Place the molds in the freezer for 15 minutes.
- Melt the white chocolate the same way that you did the black and spoon it into the molds. Freeze for 10-15 minutes.
- Carefully remove the half spheres from the molds.
- Add a serving of cocoa mix and some mini marshmallows. Seal using melted chocolate or the hot plate method.
- Once the halves are stuck together, melt the colored candy melts and put them into a piping bag, and create a fun pattern on top. Add some coarse sugar, if desired.
- Take the skeleton pieces out of the molds and attach them to the hot cocoa bombs using melted chocolate.
