DIY Seashell Planter
Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, I am loving the beach vibes I’m seeing all around this year. From the high end shops to the dollar stores, the nautical and beach-inspired decor is all over the place.
This little planter was created to hold a bit of greenery on a tiered tray, but this would be great if you repurposed a larger pot! It has a light and airy vibe and is neutral to work with many types of decor. If you gather up seashells on each beach trip you take, this would be a fun way to display them.

Tips For Making This Shell Candle Holder or Planter
- Depending on the size of the seashells, you may need to layer them to get them to fit just right. Do what looks best to you and add in the glue where you can.
- You can buy the seashells or use your own seashells that you’ve gathered over the years for this nautical shell planter Just make sure that if you’re using your own seashells they’re clear of dirt and debris.
- Use what you have on hand – if you have a larger clay pot in your craft supplies, you might need a few more bags of shells.
- You can use a glass vase or jar from the dollar store but you might need to add a sturdier glue like e6000. Sometimes my hot glue projects on glass don’t stay without the stronger glue.
- Faux greenery looks great in this little planter but I think a candle would be pretty, as well.
Beach Shell Flower Pot DIY
The great thing about making this pot is that it is versatile. Fill it full of fresh wild flowers or use it as a holder to showcase other seashells in your collection.
DIY Beach Seashell Planter
This seashell planter is a quick afternoon craft and a great way to add a beach theme to a tiered tray, bookcase, or other decor.
Materials
- Medium Size Terra Cotta Pot (about 4 Inches)
- Seashells
Tools
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Instructions
- Gather a mid-sized terra cotta pot, some seashells, and a small glue gun with glue sticks.
- Add a line of glue on the inside bottom of the shell. Note: if adhering to glass, use e6000 and hot glue in tandem.
- Press the shell along the top of the terra cotta pot, letting some of the seashell extend over the top. Repeat this process around the top of the pot and try to align the TOPS of the shells for a consistent appearance.
- For the rest of the shells, put glue along the bottom and the top so that they stick to both the pot and the seashells above them. Layer them over the entire pot.
Notes
If working on a glass vase, jar, or planter, use E6000 in tandem with the hot glue, adding dollops of both.
