Christmas Rice Cereal Treats
Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, we may be slightly obsessed with rice cereal treats. We have the best time making them from scratch, but when time is short, we head to the grocery store to grab a box…or two of the premade variety.
I don’t know about you, but my kiddo can get a bit antsy about 10 days into winter break. Because we love being in the kitchen making goodies together, I am always looking for a recipe she can help with or even make herself.
With this Santa Hat Rice Krispies® treats recipe, the older kids can whip them up by themselves. For the younger kiddos, a grown-up needs to help with the microwave part. Either way, it is a fun way to spend some time together.

Tips For Making Your Santa Rice Cereal Treats
- When working with candy melts, don’t add too much shortening or the mixture will be too thin for dipping.
- If you are using the double boiler method instead of a microwave, be sure to keep the water away from the candy melt mixture. If your mixture gets water added to it, it can become lumpy.
- If your candy melt mixture becomes hard at any time during the process, you can reheat it at 50% power for 10-12 seconds.
- Do not use a plastic bowl to heat your candy melts as it can make the mixture seize up, and that is no fun.
