The Axel Gnome Pattern
Today, I’m launching the anticipated Axel gnome pattern. I’ve been asked for a mid-size gnome for a while and this easy guy fits that perfectly.
He stands between 10-11 inches tall, is a lightweight guy, perfect for shipping, and even comes with bonuses like bunny ear patterns, feet, and arms. You can use this as a gnome sewing pattern or a no-sew gnome.

The Perfect Mid-Size Gnome Pattern
Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, I’ve been creating my own DIY gnome patterns for years. I start with drawing out a design in Procreate, cutting some paper pieces, and go through a few revisions before they get released.
Well, this guy was a bit different. When I started, I sat down to make a SNOWMAN.
I sort of went a bit off base, sure, but when you see the base of this guy, you’ll understand. I posted my first version of this guy in the DIY Gnomes Facebook group and everyone wanted it!
If you know you want it, too, you can get the Axel gnome pattern now and get started. Or, scroll down for a bit more inspiration.

You can use a sewing machine or assemble this cute character with hot glue. The pattern includes the body, base, a beard guide, hat, two sizes of bunny ears, arms, and feet.

Fall Gnomes with the Axel Pattern
Elegant Fall Gnome
Isn’t this guy is the epitome of sophistication? The elegant fall gnome DIY made with the Axel pattern takes only two colors of fleece, a bit of fur, and simple decorations.
If shipping, the minimal decorations can allow the hat to be squished down and pop back into place at unwrapping.
Scarecrow Gnome with Jean Hat
If you want to create hats with a non-stretchy material, you can! There is guidance within the Axel gnome pattern to make a simple change to accommodate any fabric.
The beard on this Scarecrow gnome is wool locks I picked up on Etsy here. I love the curly, mussed look of this style.

Simple Christmas Gnome DIY
If you are looking for an easy pattern to create a lot of gnomes quickly for a craft fair, this Christmas gnome style inspiration might be the perfect thing. It’s very quick to come together, whether you sew or hot glue.
The style of hat also allows for a simple decoration to pull double duty or for a patterned fabric to really shine through.
Holly Holiday Gnome for Christmas Decor
I used the Axel gnome pattern’s body, base, hat, and feet pattern pieces to create this little guy. Remember, you can sew or glue this pattern, so don’t be intimidated on assembly.
This look really highlights the decorations you choose! If you have some on hand that you’ve been saving, now’s the time to break them out.
Be sure to check back here often because as I create more and more pieces, I’ll update this page. Get the Axel gnome pattern.
