Anyone who knows me knows that I love popcorn. Okay, it’s more of an obsession than a love, per se. It seems I might have passed on my love for the popped snack onto my daughter.
We stay away from microwave popcorn due to the chemicals, but because it can be made on the stove in just a few minutes, it is still a quick and oh-so-versatile snack. It’s no secret that the little one is kind of in love with all things, FROZEN. Because of that, we have mini FROZEN-inspired parties all the time and I whipped up this treat for one of those impromptu celebrations.
How to Make Popcorn on the Stove Top
This FROZEN movie night popcorn treat is sure to please even the pickiest eaters. It comes together in minutes and the kids will absolutely love it! Turn on stovetop burner to medium heat. You only need just as much oil as it takes to coat the kernels, not to have them floating in it. You can stand there and shake the pan if you want, but I’m often washing dishes or cleaning the counters and I don’t. As long as the heat isn’t too high, the corn won’t burn. It takes a few minutes, but once the popping slows down, remove the pan from the heat. You can either melt some butter and add sea salt for a traditional snack, or after making sure that there are no kernels, jazz it up and turn into a sweet treat like this. Once the chocolate was melted, I added it to a bowl with the popcorn and tossed it to coat. We are very conscious of Elise’s sugar intake, so I used just a tiny amount of white baker’s chocolate – I used 1.5 squares for nearly 3 cups of popped popcorn. I used the Ghirardelli Chocolate Baking Bar I had on hand which makes it sort of an off-white color, but you can also use white Candy Melts
.
Once the chocolate was melted, I added it to a bowl with the popcorn and tossed it to coat. I then spread it out on a cookie sheet covered in wax paper and added blue sugar sprinkles before the candy had a chance to dry.
