Glow in the Dark Bath Bombs are Wicked COOL!
I had such an awesome time making these glow in the dark bath bombs, but the kiddo? Called them “wicked cool” and insisted that share them immediately!

Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, we have a great time making fun projects with the kiddo. And when she asked to make something glow-in-the-dark, well, of course bath bombs that glow in the dark came to mind! We make bath bombs together all the time (it’s part of how I keep bath time and thus bed time smooth as buttah at our house). And making these was just a foregone conclusion!

Tips to Make Kid-safe Glow-in-the-dark Bath Bombs
- My basic bath fizzy rule of thumb is that when your glow in the dark bath bombs are hard to the touch, you are ready to take them to the tub! If you’re not going to rush them all to fizz, be sure to store in an airtight container–you don’t want them to lose their fizzy before you’re ready.
- Never ever use food coloring in any of your bath bombs, for the love of everything. You’ll certainly have colorful bath bombs, but it could stain your tub and your skin and your hair…
- Mold this recipe in any flat-backed design so they will be safe for use as coffee shower fizzies, too. I love using the extra mix for this.

- Let these GITD bath bombs dry for at least 24 hours to get the most fizz–or 48 hours if you live somewhere humid or chilly. Plus, if there’s a little mix-up in your mix and it is wetter than needed, drying bath bombs overnight will usually work that out.
- To activate the glow of your bath bombs, just hold one under a light (natural light is best) for about 30 seconds then get into a dark room. The bath bomb will glow brightly after a few seconds. If you want the bath bombs to glow even brighter, hold them under a black light after exposing them to regular light.

Glow in the Dark Bath Bombs
This glow in the dark bath bomb recipe is the perfect bath bomb for kids--they're going to love playing in the bath with these easy glow in the dark fizzies for bath time!
Materials
- 2 cups baking soda
- 1 cup citric acid
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup white kaolin clay
- 1/3 cup coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon polysorbate 80
- 1 teaspoon fresh cotton scented oil
- 1-2 teaspoons blue glow in the dark colorant
- 1-2 teaspoons green glow in the dark colorant
Tools
- Stainless steel bath bomb molds
- Spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol
- 1 large mixing bowl
- 2 smaller bowls
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the baking soda, citric acid, white kaolin clay and cornstarch. Whisk together.
- Add the coconut oil, polysorbate 80 and the scented oil, then mix the ingredients together with your hands to break up any lumps. The mixture is perfect when it holds together when it feel like wet sand and you can press it together in your hands and it holds it shape generally.
- Separate the bath bomb mixture into the two smaller bowls then add 1-2 teaspoons of the blue glow in the dark powder to one bowl and the green glow in the dark powder to the other. Mix each bowl thoroughly.
- Fill one side of a bath bomb mold with the blue mixture and the other side with the green then press together and grind to combine. Gently tap each side of the mold to release the bombs. Allow the bath bombs to dry for a minimum of 24 hours or more if you live somewhere humid or cold. Store in an airtight container until ready for use.
- To activate the glow, hold the bath bomb under a light (natural light is best) for about 30 seconds then take it into a dark room. The bomb will glow brightly. If you want it to glow even brighter, hold under a black light after exposing to a regular light.
