Tips to Make Yarn Unicorn Wreath

  • To start with, you’re going to need these easy-to-use templates for all the pieces you’ll need to cut out. So, download those before you do anything else.
  • If you don’t have white yarn, don’t panic. Unicorns come in many colors. So, if you have blue yarn or pink yarn, you’re good. Don’t go with brown yarn–then it’s just a horse with a horn and that’s so weird.
  • Take your time with the flowers. Don’t rush. Just let the kids place them where they want and they’ll be happier–and it will look more organic. Because unicorns are organic, you know.

Total Time 15 minutes
Difficulty Easy
Estimated Cost $10

Materials

  • Glitter paper
  • Colored craft paper
  • Black cardstock paper
  • Round wreath base
  • White yarn
  • Printed templates

Tools

  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue or hot glue and glue gun

Instructions

  1. Print and cut your templates.
  2. Choose different colored craft paper or cardstock OR glitter paper (my favorite) for the flowers and the leaves.
  3. Trace the patterns from the template pieces onto the selected papers and cut them out with the scissors. I used glitter paper for the leaves and the flower base, because, again, I love glitter paper.
  4. Take a spiral cut out and roll it from the outer edge, all the way toward the center, making a big spiral. Glue the rolled part with the center and hold it in place for a minute to let the glue set.
  5. Attach the spiral you just made on the center of a flower base cut out.
  6. Repeat with each of the flowers until you have all the flowers you need.
  7. Set aside and allow the glue to dry while you work on the wreath.
  8. Wrap the entire wreath base using white yarn (or any colored yarn you want--remember, unicorns come in a variety of colors).
  9. With the craft glue or a glue gun, attach the horn cut out on the wreath base, pointing away from the wreath base, like a horn.
  10. Glue the flowers onto the wreath base, below and around the horn.
  11. Attach the leaves between/behind the flowers in order to fill in any areas that are bare-ish. Add more decorations, like crystals or ribbon, if desired.
  12. Attach the eye cutouts onto the wreath base just above the center, on the opposite sides of the wreath base, like where eyed traditionally go on a unicorn or other animal.
  13. Attach a small loop of yarn to the back to hang your wreath! how to make a unicorn wreath photo tutorial collage
