I’ve also shared Harry Potter popcorn, a S’mores popcorn recipe, Frozen Popcorn (for the movie), and so many more.

But, lately, it’s been all the rage here to make unicorn, mermaid, and rainbow treats at our house. And because I’ve already made the unicorn and mermaid popcorn recipes, let’s create a rainbow party popcorn!

Tips to Make this Colored Popcorn

  • Choose parchment paper over wax paper if you have it. Because we’ll be working with warm to hot temperatures, wax paper can transfer (we don’t want that).
  • Make sure the candy melts aren’t too hot before you pour over the popcorn. If the chocolate is too hot, it could actually shrink the popped corn.
  • Add more colors, use less, use pastels, etc. You can also change the flavors to match a theme, a party, or just because you feel like it.
  • If you want to add sprinkles or marshmallows, add them before the candy melts harden again. If you do, they’ll stick to the popcorn and the kids love it!

Pour one bowl of melted candy coating into one bag of popcorn, seal, and shake until the popcorn is covered. The kids LOVE to help with this part!

Spread the popcorn onto the lined baking sheet. Repeat above steps every color and allow the colored popcorn to set for about 25 minutes on the counter or 10 minutes in the fridge.

Once cooled and set, mix together and add M&Ms, gum balls and sprinkles prior to serving.
