Materials

  • Construction Paper (we used a full sheet of dark blue, and scraps of light blue and pink)
  • Scissors, glue stick, and tape
  • Black marker
  • Elephant Paper Puppet Template (ears, mouth, trunk, and eyes)

Instructions

  1. First, fold the dark blue construction paper into thirds along the long side of the paper. Remove one section with scissors and set aside for another project.
  2. Fold the remaining two-thirds in half, width-wise. Then half again, but this time lengthwise. Secure the open side along the long side of the paper.
  3. Next, fold back one of the halves to form the head and the other side to form the bottom of the mouth.
  4. If you haven't already, cut out the template pieces and trace onto corresponding paper. I used light blue construction paper for the ears and trunk and pink for the tongue. I used the printed eyes.
  5. Using a glue stick, attach all of the pieces. Affix the ears to the puppet body underneath the head portion. Glue the large section of the trunk underneath the mouth opening (on the head portion). Glue on the tongue to the inside of the puppet.
  6. Draw lines on the trunk to add texture and curl it up (or down) by wrapping the trunk around the marker. You're done with your adorable elephant paper puppet!
