Halloween At Our House

Here’s a recap of Halloween at our house this year. My, my, how things have changed with the addition of a munchkin.

Halloween at Our House 2014

Did The Parents Dress Up?

Nope. It’s not because we think we’re too cool for school (but of course, we are), it’s just that we just couldn’t muster it this year.

Which is depressing, ya’ll, because we used to love going to this WICKED AWESOME Halloween party our friend in Portland put on. She’s now sold her house and is touring the world, so I don’t see another one of those in our near future. I guess we’ll have to host a big bash ourselves or make new adult friends.

GASP! The horror!

Did the Kid Dress Up?

Yep. Can you guess what her costume was? Surprise, surprise – she was Queen Elsa. I made her a cape because it was chilly (and we thought it was going to rain) and I think she loved that part of her costume most of all.

Ruffles and Rain Boots Halloween 2014

Check out those rain boots (on both of us) – this is called Ruffles and Rain Boots, after all. To answer someone’s email question, Elise’s rain boots are Bogs and I’m wearing some from  Sperry. I put a link to Elise’s over at the right (affiliate link) but I bought these purple plaid ones years ago and I don’t think they are available anymore.

Halloween Fridge Notes

I have a history of writing little love notes or surprise messages on stuff in the fridge. When you’re reaching for the Greek yogurt it’s just an added benefit to be reminded you’re loved, right?

Well, color me impressed when my bloggy friend, Colleen from Lemon Thistle, produced these gems. Inspired by the splendid gal I will forever associate with hexagons, I took 5 minutes and whipped up these tiny surprises for Jeff on Halloween while Elise was refusing to nap.

Halloween Cookies

In keeping with the 2014 hobby of sugar cookie decorating, I whipped up cookies for a couple neighbors and friends. This was the first time I tried the 3-D or pinata cookie, which really should be called the “Surprise! There’s sugary crap inside this unbelievably already big sugar-laden confection!!” cookie. Seriously, this is like a cookie that can last 3 days and put you into a sugar coma faster than you can say, “Now that’s a big cookie!”

It was much easier to make than I thought to make and by putting a few M & Ms inside, it was a nifty treat idea. Elise just loved that there was a surprise inside but to be fair, she gets excited about opening a new carton of milk. Just sayin’.

I whipped up some more cookies but because I didn’t have a plan and added too much water to the icing (without correcting it), they were not my best batch – note the sunken eyes on the smiling skeleman. I gave them to people anyway because hey, they’re cookies. There were other designs but I think the universe swallowed the photos… Again.

The Kid’s Crafts

We obviously crafted quite a bit for the holiday. I believe our family can keep the googly eye manufacturers in business. Singlehandedly. Ya’ll the pumpkin she made freaks me out a little – that bat floating above it is a sight to see at 2 am.

Here are a couple but honestly, many have already made it to the vertical file and I’m feeling a bit unmotivated to get up and photograph the rest of them right now. I’m totally a candidate for “Mother of the Year,” right?

And who could possibly forget about Elise’s adorable Monster Wreath!?!? This is such a big hit with everyone who comes to the house and I can’t wait to pull it out again next year.

What fun Halloween celebration! I love her Elise’s pumpkin, even if it is a little creepy.

Elise’s cape is adorable! I love her rain boots. Sadly, we do not own a single pair of rain boots. I think if I wore them people would look at me like I was rather odd, we do live in a desert and all :)

The fridge notes are a great idea, I leave messages on bathroom mirrors, but I like this. Just pinned and I am going to try it!

Holy Moley you guys were busy for Halloween. Still looks like a whole lotta fun at the Daher house and in the neighborhood. One question – did chocolate go inside the hidey hole for the cookies????
