Tips to Make This Gift in a Jar Idea

  • Click here to get the cut file set for both the gingerbread man (and his wittle browken footsie) and the “oh snap” text. Cut them all from felt and you’re ready to make your Christmas banner!
  • I have recently discovered that if you use a foam roller while decoupaging, you can get a more smooth finish on your decoupaged pieces. So, give this foam roller a try.
  • If you can’t find this obnoxiously fun holiday-red burlap at the craft store or Dollar Tree, you can find what I used here. One thing I wish i’d done was using pinking shears to cut the edges, but other than my little mistake there, I love how this turned out!

Fast and fun, you're going to love how easy it is to make this gingerbread man garland in a jar Cricut craft!

Materials

Tools

  • Cricut Explore Air 2 or Cricut Maker
  • Cricut Rotary Blade
  • Light Grip Mat
  • Hot Glue Gun & Glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Mod Podge
  • Darning Needle

Instructions

  1. Make the mason jar first by trimming the napkin to fit on the jar. Trim away 3 of the four sides, leaving only the clean gingerbread man.
  2. Coat the jar with a thick layer of mod podge, then, while it's still very wet, place the gingerbread man napkin on the surface of the jar. Place it carefully because the napkin will tear if you try to move it after coming into contact with the mod podge.
  3. Coat the napkin-covered jar with a second layer of mod podge, just to provide extra protection for the napkin. Allow this second layer of mod podge to dry completely. photo collage tutorial of how to decoupage a mason jar gift
  4. Download the cut file set and upload them to Cricut Design Space. Resize the text and gingerbread man shapes to fit in a 6-inch height space. Click "Make It".
  5. Follow the instructions to cut out all of the lettering from black craft felt, two gingerbread men from light brown craft felt and two sets of decorations for the gingerbread man in white and red craft felt.
  6. Assemble each of the gingerbread men by gluing the decorations onto the gingerbread man shape.
  7. Cut out the desired pennant shapes with scissors from the burlap. I decided to cut out pennants with two little tails, but you can do yours with a single tail, rectangles without tails, diamond shapes or anything.
  8. Hot glue each of the letters to a burlap pennant shape.
  9. Hot glue the fully assembled gingerbread men to one burlap pennant each.
  10. Line-up the pennants on your table in the order you would like to have them displayed.
  11. Cut the embroidery thread to the length of the pennants all laid-out, plus 1 foot on each side, to allow you to tie the garland as desired.
  12. Thread your needle and work it through one side, then the other of each of the pennants to secure them in place on the thread.
  13. Hang your garland on the mantle! photo collage tutorial of how to make a gingerbread man garland
