Tips to Make this DIY Christmas Gift in a Jar
- If you’re ready to make this fun Christmas Cricut craft, start by grabbing the Christmas farm truck garland cut file set here. You can certainly make this garland without your Cricut, though, all you need to do is grab the files, print out the included JPG (or whichever file you want to print) and use it as a pattern to cut out each of the pieces with scissors. Easy peasy!
- One thing I wish I’d done differently was to cut the burlap pieces using a set of pinking shears. For whatever reason, I forgot pinking shears even existed – much less that I had some. So, take it from me, the pinking shears will reduce fraying and the edges look much more sharp and fun.
- When you’re layering the felt pieces for the little farm truck, take care not to press down on the felt pieces on top. You don’t want the hot glue to seep through the top layer of felt and ruin your look. Just lay the pieces on top of each other, no pressing.
How Do I Make this Christmas Farm Truck Garland Kit in a Mason Jar?
I’m so glad you asked. Below is our written tutorial.
Christmas Farm Truck Garland Kit in a Mason Jar
Super fast and fun craft that is just a great gift idea or craft for your own mantle. This Christmas farm truck garland kit in a mason jar just makes the best Cricut craft for the holidays.
Materials
- Craft Felt in: Red, Beige/Brown, Green, Black and Grey
- Burlap 6-inch Ribbon
- Christmas Farm Truck Garland Cut File Set
- Twine or String
- Christmas Farm Truck Napkin
- Mason Jar (with lid)
Tools
- Mod Podge or Craft Glue
- Cricut Explore Air 2 or Cricut Maker
- Cricut Rotary Blade
- Light Grip Mat
- Hot Glue Gun & Glue
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
Instructions
- Make your jar by cutting your napkin down to fit on the jar. I cut off 3 of the 4 sides, leaving just the truck.
- Coat the jar with mod podge, then place the napkin on the surface of the jar. Take care to place it carefully because the napkin is thin and fragile--and will tear if you try to move it after the napkin comes in contact with the mod podge.
- Cover the napkin with a second coat of mod podge, to add an extra layer of protection for the napkin. Allow this to dry completely.
- Download the farm truck garland cut file set and upload to Cricut Design Space. You should not have to resize it, but if it imports at larger than 6-inches tall on the tree, resize the entire file so that the tree is shorter than 6-inches tall.
- Follow the instructions in Cricut Design Space to cut out the desired number of truck bodies with two tire wells per truck from red felt, two tires per truck from black felt, 1 wood rail per truck from brown felt, two trees per truck from green felt and one tree trunk per tree from brown/beige felt.
- Assemble each of the trees by gluing the trunks to the front of the tree trunks. Assemble the farm trucks by gluing the tire wells above each tire space and one tire behind the truck in this space. Glue the rail onto the truck bed and glue a tree in the bed as well.
- Cut out the desired pennant shapes from the burlap. I cut out pennants with two tails, but you can do single tails, rectangles with no tails, diamonds or anything you desire.
- Hot glue the fully assembled trucks and trees to the burlap pennants.
- Place the pennants in the order you would like them displayed in the final banner.
- Cut the twine or string to the length of the pennants all laid-out, plus 1 foot on each side, for additional space.
- Hot glue the pennants in place on the twine then hang on the mantle!
