Wishing Bottles – A 5-Minute Craft
Wishing bottles are a fun idea my daughter learned about at school. The purpose is to fill the bottle and then either:
- gift it to someone who could use a place to stash their worries or
- add a wish or a dream of your own.
My daughter came home asking if we could make ‘fairy’ wish bottles for herself and a couple of her friends.
How could I not comply? We had a few moments before our neighbor was ready for a bike ride and we were done in 5-minutes!

Supplies for Wish Bottles
On a rare sunny(ish) day in Seattle, we set to crafting these fairy wishing bottles. It takes only a couple of minutes, so if that’s all you can spare, set this up for the kids.
- mini glass bottles with a lid, cork, or seal (like these) or plastic, if you can find them
- loose bits of nature, seashells, sand, etc. which can fit in the bottle
- optional: glitter
We used dandelions, small flowers, ferns, and grasses. And in true Ruffles and Rain Boots kid crafts fashion, we added glitter because she’s 6.

Materials
- mini glass bottles with a lid, cork, or seal (like these) or plastic, if you can find them
- loose bits of nature, seashells, sand, etc. which can fit in the bottle
- optional: glitter
Instructions
- Assemble the Wishing Bottles
- There isn’t much to this, to be honest. The kids gather the supplies and they stuff them inside the bottle.
- If you notice in our supplies picture (placed artfully on a tree stump), we have glycerin because we wanted to ‘float’ the items. It failed, so just skip that. :)
- Add the wish. According to my daughter, this is the most important part, so be sure to add a wish or seal it up and gift it so that a friend can add in their wish.
