Dollar Tree Terrarium – Perfect for All Seasons
This Dollar Tree terrarium is the perfect addition for an easy year-round display. You can make this cute and affordable craft which can be dressed up or left natural.

Make an Easy Terrarium for Year-Round Displays
Here at Ruffles and Rain Boots, I always bring crafts on vacation but they are usually quick and easy DIY projects. While my husband and daughter are occupied with naps, reading, or daddy / daughter date stuff, I will set up a little area and take a break from the business of vacationing.
Normally, I take polymer or air dry clay, hand sewing crafts, or painting projects because after I do them, they are usually SOLID and I don’t have to worry about transporting anything fragile. But this trip, I was meeting a friend who wanted to craft a few specific things she’d seen at my home and this little terrarium project was one of them. Transporting a glass jar or globe made me nervous, but everything worked out.

Tips for Making this Terra Cotta Pot Terrarium
- All Dollar Trees are different so you may need to find some of the craft supplies at a big box or craft store, but I was able to find everything except the saucer at mine.
- Use chalk paint on the terra cotta if you can because it covers very well and doesn’t seem to be absorbed as easily as acrylic paint. Another option is to seal the pieces first to avoid it absorbing so much of the paint color.
- E6000 is my glue of choice for this project but if you need to work on it all in one sitting, use a mix of hot glue and E6000. Use alternating dots of each one, taking care not to mix them.
- Take the extra step to seal the painted clay pot and terra cotta saucer. The piece will show wear and tear if you don’t because the paint will chip off.
- These same supplies can be turned into an adorable gum ball machine, too! You can use real gum balls or brightly colored pompoms to achieve the look.

Dollar Tree Clay Pot Terrarium
Make this year round Dollar Tree terrarium display and swap the contents for each season or holiday in just minutes. Read the tips for additional ideas.
Materials
- 1 clay saucer (lid) 4.5”
- 1 clay pot (base) 4.5”
- 1 large wooden bead (I used 1 inch)
- 1 clear globe vase (fish bowl vase)
- white chalk paint
- E6000 glue
- ribbon
- moss
- silk flowers
- sealant (optional, but recommended)
Tools
- Glue Gun and Glue Stick
- Foam Paintbrush
Instructions
- Paint the wood bead, clay pot, and bottom of the saucer with white chalk paint (I used two coats).
- Using the E6000, glue the knob to the center of the bottom of the saucer and the globe vase to the bottom of the clay pot. Optional: you may both use the E6000 and the hot glue, just take care not to mix them.
- Decorate the terrarium by using hot glue and ribbon. I affixed mine to the very bottom of the clay pot nearest to the fish bowl vase.
- Add decorations into the vase and top with the saucer to display.
Notes
Use sandpaper to rough up the edges of the saucer and pot for a rustic or farmhouse style.
To change out the items quickly, place this over a basket or box filled with each holiday and season's goodies.
