Best “No Fail” Sugar Cookie Recipe (and Instructions)
My favorite recipe for plain sugar cookie dough is by far this one from Lilaloa’s Georganne. If you’re looking for the best, nearly no-fail sugar cookie recipe, try it. After I did, I haven’t used anything else because this one bakes up perfectly every time. I’ve substituted whole wheat flour, and although they definitely taste different, they still bake up well.
Best Royal Icing Recipe
Okay, so if you have any doubt let’s nip it in the bud right here: Antonia’s 74 is kind of the best icing recipe for the at-home sugar cookie decorator. Royal icing is ridiculously easy to make (and clean up) and this recipe is kind of the standard in homemade cookie decorating. Using meringue powder in place of egg whites allows kids and pregnant women to enjoy the cookies, too. You can change the consistency, color it well, and get so good at making it that it becomes a “no fail” recipe for almost everyone.
There are many ways to make it up, but if you’re new to sugar cookie decorating, give this one a try.
