Make these dessert nachos with fruit and cinnamon sugar chips

Y’all, these dessert nachos are good. Not just good, but darn good. They are irresistible.

I went to get a prop to shoot the final shot and I came back to 2 of them GONE. Of course, no one in the house took the credit for that even though they were covered in them.

Now, we’re no beginners at desserts. Check out some of the fun we’re having over on our Sweets and Eats page here on Ruffles and Rain Boots.

Ingredients for The Best Fruit Dessert Nachos

You probably have everything on hand for these. I love it when that happens!

  • Flour tortilla, baked or unbaked*
  • Melted butter (about 1 tablespoon)
  • Cinnamon sugar (see below for mix)
  • Berries, banana, blueberries (your choice)
  • Whip cream (homemade or store bought – the nachos let you be you)
  • Chocolate sauce for drizzle

How to Make Cinnamon Sugar Mix

As a very young child, I remember thinking we were the luckiest kids because my mom would make us cinnamon sugar toast. A piece of bread topped with butter and cinnamon sugar was my happy place for a long time. I recall thinking that my mom was really fancy.

Fancy mom. Fancy toast.

Memories.

To make the cinnamon sugar mix, just take 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and add 2-3 teaspoons of cinnamon. Mix it up and store it in an old spice container.

You can use some of your leftover cinnamon sugar to make your own sugar cubes. These cinnamon sugar cubes would be ah-may-zing in your morning coffee.

Instructions (with a Bit of Flair)

These dessert nachos couldn’t be more simple. I made them while the little one was engaged in a Spring Break craft on a playdate. They definitely classify as an easy dessert.

Preheat your oven to 410 degrees Fahrenheit or 425, depending on what tortillas you’re using.

* A note about the tortillas… We’ve used baked and unbaked and both work. Unbaked tortillas will rise up and get bigger poofs in them. I call them tasty little air pockets. You’ll bake the uncooked tortillas on 425 for about 8 minutes.

For cooked tortillas, you will bake these at 410 for between 6-8 minutes. They won’t get as poofy as the uncooked tortillas, but they’re still pretty darn tasty.

Prepare the Amazing Cinnamon Sugar Dessert Chips

So… Fair warning: these cinnamon sugar chips are pretty amazing on their own or with a yogurt dip, so maybe consider making a few as a backup.

Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray (or use parchment paper). Preheat your oven.

Cut a tortilla into slices with a knife or pizza cutter. It’s easier if you keep it semi-assembled (in a circle). But you can be a rebel and scatter them like a dandelion on the breeze.

Brush the melted butter onto the tortilla, being extra generous with it. Extra. Generous.

Get your sprinkling hand ready. Use a spoon (from a lofty height for dramatic effect) to sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mix all over that tortilla. Again, we’re putting on our kindness hats and loading it up with cinnamon sugar.

Bake per the tortilla type instructions above and let cool.

Assemble Dessert Nachos

While your tortilla chips are cooking, rinse and slice the fruit. We used bananas, strawberries, and blueberries because that’s what we had.

Fidget in place while you’re waiting (for what seems like an eternity) for the yummy cinnamon chips to cool.

Position the chips onto a serving dish. These won’t do well moved. We served this batch on a bed of blueberries with a few whole strawberries. Some of the chocolate, cinnamon, and whip cream make their way down to the bed of blueberries and it’s a nice surprise.

And add a smidge of whip cream on each chip. Load ’em up with fruit (and maybe a little more whip cream because – we don’t need a reason).

Drizzle chocolate sauce with flair, like you’re a famous pastry chef who has their own cooking show.

Wait… You don’t see the chocolate drizzle? Yeah… That’s because the two tiny people in the house got to them before I could take that picture. They did, however, wear the evidence well.

Serve the dessert nachos up and watch them disappear.
