A Paper Plate Wreath Craft: Runnin’ Circles ‘Round My Heart

This is an awesome pic of an awesome craft on RufflesAndRainBoots.com

A paper plate craft? Why not? I’m sick, it’s easy and the toddler is happy.

This little wreath kept my 2 year old’s interest for about 15 minutes and it is a great, quick art project that can be easily displayed or gifted.

When I gave her the paper plate… Well, you can see for yourself that she had a little fun with it!

This was fun to watch a two year old put together.

I cut the center of the paper plate away, but to let her practice her scissoring skills, I gave her a few roughly cut hearts. She cannot cut them out yet, but it gave me time to finish cutting the hearts for her wreath.

Supplies:

  • a paper plate (round is good, oval is good, square is good – we’ve used all three for our wreaths in the past)
  • construction paper (we used scraps from other crafting projects)
  • ribbon (we used 12 inches)
  • glue stick
  • tape / stapler to affix ribbon to wreath

Because we have made wreaths before, I simply told Elise we were going to make a heart wreath. We talked about the colors and the shapes (circle and hearts), but she was kind of just geared up to start gluing because neither the colors nor the shapes were new to her.

To fit our standard-size ‘lunch’ plate, she used about 20 hearts of varying sizes. Once she was done, I stapled on the 12 inch Hello Kitty ribbon.

And, yes. I let the kiddo choose the Hello Kitty ribbon to hang her wreath. I mean, what Valentine’s Day toddler craft would be complete without Hello Kitty?

During the gluing, she accidentally put a heart on upside down. She put her glue stick down, peeled it up, and placed it back down right-side up.

What does this kid even need me for now? :)

This was a quick and entertaining craft and she says, “I made that” when she passes by it.

I love that she is proud of her artwork and we will work to see she never loses that.

Let me know in the comments section if you have any ideas for other Valentine’s Day crafts. We love to hear from you!

Have a lovely day!
