Learning is Fun!

Little Books, A LOT of Love

To combine learning with Elise’s obsession fascination with coloring, we started with making some of our own simple ‘books!’ They were really fun to make and with all of the crafting gear we have lying around, were easily bound with some longer-length brads.

We are getting new doors and windows installed this week and next, followed immediately with new siding, so our activities will be mostly away from the house. I am very thankful that we can make these upgrades right now but will also be very happy when they are done!

There is a strong love of books around here. We get all kinds of great books for Danger for .69 cents each from the Value Village, so we have a lot of them! As much as we read to Danger – and the ‘reading’ she does on her own – we need a lot of them to keep her interested.

Coloring is also one of Danger’s favorite things to do and it often keeps her occupied for 15 minutes! Needless to say, we color together quite a few times a week.

We made pages with animals first and while Danger colored them, I described the physical traits of the animal, talked about each one’s habitats, and we both enjoyed making each of the animal sounds. During another coloring session, we changed it up a bit and talked about numbers.
Please excuse the FANTASTIC artistic license taken with some of the animals. What is remarkable to me is that Danger knew each and every one without me having to tell her! You’ve got to love a child’s imagination!
Oh and sadly, action shots will be limited for this post because I was having a day in which I SERIOUSLY couldn’t take a picture! They all turned out something like this:

Here are our books (disassembled), titled for two of Danger’s favorite people: Daddy and Aunt Becky.
The animal book is called, Hello Aunt Becky!

The numbers / colors book is called, I Love Daddy!

And assembled:

The markers we used are adorably small, perfectly sized for little tots. They are also washable, but unlike the “washable paint,” they actually come out of clothes!
We hope you have a colorful day!
