I’m gearing up for Spring, cleaning and organizing. With the addition of a DIY reed diffuser, I am scenting my house in clean, refreshing scents to help make all the cleaning a bit more bearable.
I love this time of year – we donate a great deal of ‘stuff’ and the house feels refreshed and ready for a lighter season. Because of the chemicals in most candles, I only buy a certain type and they are Ex.Pen.Sive. While making some Easter bath bombs for all the kiddos we know, I jumped back a few years and thought, I could make a DIY reed diffuser!
Why not, indeed!
A reed diffuser in golden hues was just the pick me up I needed to tackle the top of the kitchen cabinets today. This time, I actually remembered to put down some wax paper so next time it’ll be a 5 minute task. I’m attributing my remarkable recollection skills to the tangy, tangerine scent wafting from my diffuser.
Supplies for a DIY Reed Diffuser
- 1/4 cup oil – sunflower, sweet almond, a light olive oil – any light oil will do
- 20 drops of essential oil
- bamboo skewers (or reed sticks, but I find them unnecessary)
- small glass jar or bottle (with a lid if you’d like to gift it or if you like to change scents often)
- your favorite color, pattern washi tape
Before I added the washi, I set the reeds into the oils and let it soak in for a few hours while we ran errands. I flipped them over, waited a bit and then added the wash flags because I needed a bit of gold in my day.
Sometimes a gal’s just gotta add gold.
This DIY reed diffuser was made in about 10 minutes, so it definitely qualifies as a quick craft. The scent became stronger after about a day and if it starts to fade, just flip the reeds (after removing the washi). If you’d like to gift one, I’d recommend soaking the reeds a bit first so the recipient can enjoy the full strength of the scent upon setting it up.
