Paper Plate Wreath: Christmas, Woo Hoo! Oops, I Mean Yay, Thanksgiving!

Holiday Malaise and An Increased Cutie Quotient

I am not sure why, but I just kind of want to skip over Thanksgiving this year.

Before I am whipped in the town square, hear me out.

I promise there is a craft in here somewhere… Click on “Read More after the picture.”

Back to my desire to skip right on over Thanksgiving dinner.
Turkey. I just don’t like it. It’s like a dry version of chicken.
Green bean casserole? Um, no thanks. Why ruin green beans with those little dehydrated french fry things?
Sweet potatoes are yummy. Sweet potatoes with marshmallow? Seriously? They are already SWEET potatoes.
The only saving graces for this holiday for me are getting to be with the family and friends we have here in Seattle, reflecting on how thankful (and grateful) I am for my family and friends, and pumpkin pie.
I do love me some pumpkin pie, especially if it’s sporting a picture-worthy dollop of whip cream. Actually, the whip cream could just be slathered on or slammed down on the thing and I’d still be happy. Taking it one step up on the ladder of honesty, the pumpkin pie could be stark naked and I’d still be pretty darn content to shovel in right on in.
Getting back to my original thought here…
I cannot skip Thanksgiving, nor can I just slide the turkey platter right on past without drawing attention, but I CAN get a jump on Christmas. I am currently stuffing and addressing our Christmas cards.
The baby is asleep, I have a glass of water (secretly wishing it were wine), and Jeff is tooling around on the great, wide Internet. My back muscles are REVOLTING after my latest session with my trainer. My legs are burning from my hour long run I inflicted upon myself earlier today. I am listening to the WORST Christmas card playlist in history – seriously, it includes Warren Zevon’s Werewolves of London. Great song, but does it really scream Christmas? Despite all of this, there is a million-watt smile plastered on my face. I know I look like a dork, but I can’t help it.
No, I have not finally lost it. Not yet. I’ll save that until after the “entirely homemade Christmas” is done. Oh yes, people. I might have overcommitted myself in making the stockings, advent calendar, dĂ©cor, wreaths, ornaments… Well, you get the idea.
Bringing me to my final thought here, Danger, Daddy and I have been having fun but I haven’t been diligent in documenting it and/or my photog skills are too severely deficient to capture us while we have been making the memories. And to that I say, my bad.
We have already been to a Christmas tree lighting – HaHa, take THAT, Thanksgiving! I mean, leave it to me to find the only tree lighting ceremony to take place before turkey day. Anyway, I couldn’t get a good shot of Danger on Daddy’s shoulders, but take it from me: it was ĂĽber cute! If you shake your head really fast, you can almost see the cuteness in this pic:

A little girl offering to make you “Mommy breakfast pancakes for dinner time” wearing only a diaper, an apron and a smile:

Elise making a snowman (don’t judge me for dragging this innocent child into my “Let’s just skip Thanksgiving Party” thing):
Elise went to her first real dentist appointment! She didn’t need any medication or calming down. She thought it was just like playing dentist at home (when we brush her teeth). She is beyond excited now because she gets to use her “fa-wah-sers.” In non-toddler speak, that’s flossers.
We made an egg carton flower wreath, complete with a springtime butterfly because hey, that’s what the kid wanted!
Elise has also moved into some pretend play and is now making breakfast for her animals and babies in her little kitchen. She takes the whole set up to her little table and just talks and sings as she spoons “broccoli bean soup” and “Mommy’s coffee time” into them.
We even got to lunch with Aunt Becky at The Rainforest CafĂ©! They look like they’re planning something…
Have a great Thanksgiving!
