I am really grateful for my Dad and all that I learned / learn from him. I mean, who else would have schooled me on checking the oil, tire pressure, turn signals – okay, anything with cars?! He taught me tangible lessons, like the bit on cars, but more importantly, he helped to define the big stuff. How to question. How to think things through. How to stand up for what is right. Yep, I’m pretty lucky to have had those lessons.
I’m also thankful for my husband, the father of our darling little Danger. Like my Dad, Jeff also does the bit about cars but more importantly, it is what he will do that makes me take pause and show gratitude.
Jeff will be helping to foster Danger’s ever-growing curiosity by setting up experiments in the kitchen. He will fuel her sense of adventure by reading her stories of faraway places and mysterious people. He will strengthen her tenacity and resolve by making her figure things out and work through them with just enough help to give her the nudge she needs when she’s stuck.
He will be her Daddy. And all of us girls just love our Dads to pieces. We love them enough to make them bacon-cakes! Bacon? Pancake? Why make both?
Danger and I let Jeff sleep in and we made bacon in the oven. When it was almost done, we made bacon-cakes, regular pancakes, and cheesy, scrambled eggs. We served it all with a side of blueberries, some handmade cards, and his Father’s Day present: a pic of Daddy and Danger at the beach.
