Parental Adventures: Poop

How Wrong Can Things Go?

Poop. Poop Everywhere.

I’d say that’s pretty wrong.

Click on “Read More” to laugh at our first-time parenting adventure in poop.

Hint: it was not awesome.

I know that our parental adventures in poop are more than likely still in their infancy, because, well, our kid is still in her infancy. But if we could just skip over the parts with poop, I’d be ever so grateful.

As with most households, evenings here  are busy. After running, I take a shower and we are just starting to see if Danger will tolerate one with me. Although successful in accomplishing the task of getting the baby clean, she rather prefers lounging and splashing about on her own in a nice, relaxing bath in which water isn’t forced down upon you by 30-odd jets. That said, Mommy would prefer that bedtime isn’t pushed back to 9pm on those nights so, we’re giving it some time to see if she will tolerate it a few days a week.

Just like earlier this week, I got Danger ready for our shower and got in. The plan is that Jeff is then to grab her and lift her into the shower, wait for her to be cleaned and then lift her out for her nightly regimen of lotions, pajamas, books, nursing and bedtime. It worked earlier this week and I didn’t have any doubts tonight would be different.

How wrong can a first-time parent be?

Let me count the ways and share my newest “lessons learned.”
1. Never. Never. Never take a diaper off a child who will remain mobile after said diaper is removed. Just don’t.
2. Never get distracted by something else and think your husband is there waiting with child in hands. He could be sitting on the couch with his laptop working, not having heard you say that it was time for the shower experiment.
3. Never be surprised when your husband brings you a child covered in poop and then frantically hands her off because he has to keep the dog out of it and get it cleaned up.

Alas, there will be no pictures of anything covered in poop accompanying this post. A pause here for silent thanks.

Reflecting on tonight, we are both kind of sad that we couldn’t capture her first foray into the “poop-as-medium” realm. It would have been awesome to show her later. You know, later like as in, oh, right before her first date… Like I mentioned above, lessons learned.
