Progress…

While some of the big ones are still looming over our heads, we’re making great headway on some of the little things for the wedding!

Engagement Ring:

I think this classifies as a big thing, so I’ll start with it: I gave my engagement ring to a complete stranger yesterday!

Cal with Goldmark Jewelry is going to make a custom ring using a ring design I found on the Internet. He’s going to try to use the band on the original in the new design!

It’s quite strange not to have the ring on and that’s weird because I’ve only been wearing it two months. Jeff thinks that’s silly – maybe it is, but I’ll be very glad when I have it back.

Save the Date Magnets / Cards:
Jeff and I took this morning to assemble the save the date magnets and enclosure cards. I know it’s time for a manicure: my nails are so long that Jeff had less of a hard time putting the magnets on the cards!

We went with a simple, red, black and white design of roses from MagnetStreetWeddings.com. It was really easy to design and the price was good – not the best, but fair. They were sent just days after I designed the proof online! Below is the version after my ancient scanner got involved:

Favors:
We have two favors: one traditional and one unique to what we love that just so happens to fit the venue we chose!

The traditional give-away will be a small candy jar filled with (most likely) red M&Ms – we’re still deciding on this; as Jeff says, “we’ve got some time.”

We got them from Lotus Flower, an online eBay store. Included with the jars were personalized stickers with an image (we chose a wedding cake), our first names, and “Thank You.”

The other favor will be coming soon – I have to figure out how long it takes to grow.

Reception Centerpieces:
Okay, we’re battling with this one. As stated in an earlier post, weddings are bloody expensive and because of that, we’ve had to decide which things we were willing to move on and which things we would spend what was needed. Centerpieces for the wine cellar did not make the latter list.

Because we’re in a wine cellar and “it’s dark,” as Jeff likes to say, we think that we will be having either very simple floral arrangements or silk flowers. Hmmm… I had to give this one some serious thought. Planning a wedding has made me think that I should have taken up floral arranging as a hobby.

I love the white (and only white) hydrangeas! They are voluminous, detailed and can look very nice in a short and squatty arrangement (which we need). I purchased a $7.00 footed vase at Target and a slightly raised painted metal bowl for $7.99 at Goodwill in downtown (oh yeah, I said Goodwill). I took silk flowers from Michael’s and started tooling around…

I know, they aren’t very “Martha” but I like the simplicity. I might talk with the florist (if we ever get around to meeting with one) about adding other white flowers around the bottom edge to create a nice border and distinction from the urn instead of this ‘flowy’ look.
